Five hundred years ago, an old and respected Shaolin martial arts tournament, held every 50 years, was corrupted by an old evil wizard named Shang Tsung. Next to him was Prince Goro, a fearsome Shokan warrior. — A half-human creature, half-dragon, with four arms. Aware that if the Outworld champion won ten consecutive tournaments, the Earth Kingdom (Earth Realm) would be conquered and plunged into darkness, Shang Tsung enrolled Goro in the tournament. The result was devastating: Goro defeated the legendary Grand Kung Lao and began to dominate the tournament as undefeated champion for five centuries. As the last decisive tournament approaches, Raiden, the God of Thunder and protector of the Earth Kingdom, sets in motion a desperate plan to balance the battle for mankind.
